I’ve edited over 300 books in almost every genre and subject area, and I love variety and change. So hit me up! I'll probably fall in love with your book.
That said, here's what really lights me up:
Very few things are a hard pass from me. However, if you fit into any of these categories, I’m probably not the best editor for you:
I lived in a rental house where the owners' friends refinished their bathroom for them. It looked like they did a great job--until the wall behind the shower started rotting from all the mold because they didn't seal the shower properly.
Sometimes, the best move is to hire a professional. They probably know a lot of stuff that you don't know you don't know.
I've been doing this a long time, and I've seen everything. I'll tell you everything you need to know, and I won't even be a jerk about it.
Developmental editing takes the longest. Depending on how many rounds of editing we need to do to get your book where you want it and how long you take to implement changes between rounds of editing, it could take several months total (with each round of editing taking roughly 1-4 weeks).
Other types of editing are quicker, at 1-4 weeks depending on the length of your book.
Keep in mind that I often book out a month in advance, so I may not be able to start immediately.
Of course not! Especially with developmental and line editing, I like to give my thoughts and ideas and trust you to implement what works and ignore the rest. I'm not a dictator. I'm your partner in perfecting your book.
That said, my grammatical changes closely follow the Chicago Manual of Style, so you may want to listen to me on those types of changes.
I suggest reading over the edited manuscript and implementing changes first before asking questions. Once you're done with that process, if you still have questions or concerns, reach out and let me know. I'm happy to clarify or discuss.
